Built by the musicians who needed it
RhythmRamp didn't start as a business plan. It started with a passage a jazz pianist could play slowly and couldn't play fast — and no good tool to close the gap.

Every metronome told us the tempo. None of them helped us get there.
You can play almost anything slowly. The hard part is the climb from slow to fast — and the ritual every teacher preaches is the same: master it at a comfortable tempo, then nudge the number up, over and over, until it's yours. It works. Almost nobody actually does it, because stopping to change the tempo every couple of minutes shatters your focus.
RhythmRamp exists to make that climb automatic. Set a start, a target, and a step size, and the tempo walks itself up while you keep playing. That's the whole idea — and it came from actually living the problem, not from a feature list.
Who built it
Tracey Larvenz
Product & EngineeringTracey is a jazz pianist who has performed with Sheila E and sat in the piano chair for the Count Basie Big Band. He's also spent more than fifteen years in learning technology — most recently as a content leader at LinkedIn Learning, where the whole job was helping people actually get better at hard things, not just handing them a course.
RhythmRamp is where those two lives meet. The practice problem was personal, and the fix was buildable, so he built it — writing the app in Swift and shipping it to the App Store. The obsession with learner relevance that shaped his day job is the same instinct behind an app that measures whether you're actually getting faster.
Susan Varnum
Design & Art DirectionSusan co-created RhythmRamp and led its design and art direction. She trained as a concert pianist at university before building a career as a content producer and instructional designer — more than a decade at LinkedIn Learning, with over 900 courses to her name. She thinks about how people learn for a living, and it shows in how the app feels to use.
She's also a macro photographer and ceramicist, someone whose instinct is to slow down and find the detail everyone else walked past. That eye is why RhythmRamp's themes, sounds, and screens feel considered rather than assembled — a practice tool that's a pleasure to open.
Why it's built the way it is
Both of us came up through the content world at LinkedIn Learning, where the measure of good work was never "did we ship it" — it was "did anyone actually improve." That's the bar we set for RhythmRamp: not the metronome with the most switches, but the one that quietly makes you better every time you open it.
No subscription. No account. No data leaving your phone. Just a tool built by two people who wanted it to exist.
